Nutrition powerd by Cindy Schäfer

Lately one has read more and more about the supposedly best and correct form of nutrition. And everyone is telling something different. So what is really important in nutrition?

Regardless of whether you are an athlete or not. Our diet contains the following macronutrients:

  • Carbohydrates: first source of energy

  • Fats: important for the hormonal balance

  • Proteins: building blocks of all cells in the human body

Carbohydrates play a major role, especially for endurance athletes. These ensure the simplest energy supply. The body uses sugar the quickest as a short-chain carbohydrate. However, you should only resort to this if you need energy quickly during an activity, for example. Otherwise, the blood sugar level rises quickly, but also falls again all the faster, which can lead to food cravings and long-term damage to health.

 Proteins and fats

Proteins and fats, on the other hand, are essential for the structure of the body. The muscles are supplied and built up by proteins, but all other body cells also need proteins in order to function. Fats are - especially in women, but also in men - very important for the hormone level. If the hormones are “unbalanced”, health problems can arise. Healthy fats must therefore be supplied in sufficient quantities. Healthy fats are the so-called unsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. This can be seen from the nutrition tables on the food packaging.

Vitamins are also very important for our general health. Around 500g of vegetables and 250g of fruit per day are recommended. Here, however, you should have a rough overview of the vitamins themselves. These differ in being water- and fat-soluble. The fat-soluble vitamins (vitamins A, D, E, K) can only be really well absorbed with the macronutrient fat. In Germany, vitamin D3 in particular is usually consumed far too little. Vitamin D3 is synthesized by exposure to the sun on the skin. But only if you get enough sun. Since this is rarely the case in areas remote from the equator, even in summer, it makes sense here to take in vitamin D yourself.
